Dear Western Australia,
Today is RAC Arena’s eighth birthday – time sure does fly when you’re having fun!
We’ve had an absolute ball since first opening in 2012 and we hope you have too. Perth fans have welcomed some of the biggest superstars in the world and cheered on some of the greatest athletes of all time. The venue has been transformed from a concert to a tennis court, an ice rink to a basketball court – and everything in between. It’s a lot to take in for an eight year old!
This year has been a little different to the previous ones. While our industry has been hit hard by COVID-19, Western Australia has given it their all to make the best of a difficult situation. Through lockdown we kept the party going online, hosting Friday Night In dance parties with Courtney Murphy, and celebrating WA’s local talent through our online series, Homegrown. As restrictions lifted, the doors to the RAC Local Lounge were thrown open, giving local entertainers the chance to get back to doing what they do best on The Stage.
And today WA has even more to celebrate! On RAC Arena’s eighth birthday we’re delighted to announce eight community partners. Ronald McDonald House will be joining our long-time partners, The Salvation Army, in our Tier 1 program. Autism WA, Cancer Council, Lifeline, MSWA, Polly Farmer Foundation and Australian Red Cross will also be joining the party in our Tier 2 category. We can’t wait to get these new collaborations underway and do our part to support their wonderful work, while they look after those of us in need.
Behind the scenes, we’ve been busy making our venue even better than before. We’re working on improving our recycle practices by adding additional stations throughout the venue, along with a quiet room for when you need a quick break from the hustle and bustle. The building has also received a little polish here and there, to make sure we’re able to give fans the best experience possible for when they return.
None of this would have been possible without our staff, partners, owners and most of all…you! Your continued support has given us hope during this unprecedented time for the live event industry.
We’ll be back to business as usual soon, in the meantime, let’s celebrate our community and the talent we have in our own backyard.
Warm regards,
Michael Scott
