The Australian bushfires have been burning for nearly four months. With record-breaking heat, the fires have consumed more than 12 million acres of land, causing thousands to evacuate and killing an estimated one billion animals. As part of our initiatives to assist in rebuilding the lives of Australians affected by this ongoing tragedy, we will be teaming up with a number of charities to help facilitate their pledge for donations.
Beginning this week, at all our upcoming events, we will be inviting various not-for-profit organisations to fundraise at RAC Arena. Both cash and eftpos donations will be accepted at all food and beverage outlets, as well as having tin shakers on the ground floor. We’ll be starting with our long time community partner, The Salvation Army, at the first Perth Wildcats home game of the year on Friday 17th January.
The Salvos, through their Disaster Appeal, have been stepping in to do their part for the Australian community. They have already provided services and support at more than 165 evacuation centres across the country, including supplying financial and material aid, advice and assistance. Their continued fundraising efforts will allow them to carry on serving the individuals, families and communities in hardship for as long as it takes to make a full recovery.
The larger ASM Global family are joining in as well, with all the Australian venues taking part in this initiative. Our sister venue, Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, assisted the NSW Rural Fire Service raise $34,118.65 and Wildlife Information Rescue and Education Service reached $9985.75 over the three Elton John shows held this week.
Our generous hirers, the fabulous promoters and artists who visit, also have projects in the pipeline. More details to follow so watch this space!
