While it’s not currently business as usual at RAC Arena, we’re doing our best to continue to support our community partners. Recently, 750 sandwiches, wraps and sushi packs, 40kg of fruit, 100kg vegetables, and 30L of milk were donated to The Salvation Army.
While it was disappointing the Perth Wildcats grand final game could not go ahead due to COVID-19 concerns last month, it was comforting knowing the pre-prepared food was going to a good cause; serving their clients staying at The Beacon facility. The Beacon – just one of the many ways The Salvation Army support the people of Western Australia – provides crisis and transitional accommodation for men experiencing homelessness, as well as a number of intermediary support services to assist someone moving from point of dependence to independence.
The long standing partnership between The Salvation Army and the Arena dates back to 2013 and doesn’t only extend to food donations. Regular clothing and money contributions are made from the venue’s lost and found collection. Complimentary tickets are offered to reward their hard working volunteers and clients, as well as prizes provided to support their worthy fund raising appeals. 2019 saw the Golden Ticket raffle raise over $31,000 for the charity, which went towards 4,500 meals for those who are homeless, 833 nights of crisis bed use, and 3 months of food provisions for the breakfast meal program.
RAC Arena, on behalf of the State Government, is looking forward to supporting West Australians in need over the coming months.
