Statement from West Australian Premier, Mark McGowan –

Based on our current COVID-19 situation, it is clear we are past the peak of our Omicron wave.

WA has secured the soft landing we planned thanks to the efforts of Western Australians, our world-leading vaccination rates, and the common-sense decision to delay the full border reopening.

WA currently has a third dose vaccination rate of 79 per cent. This is an outstanding effort and a credit to everyone who did the right thing to protect themselves and others.

There have been challenges, and we cannot forget some WA families have experienced heartbreak.

However, overwhelmingly, WA has performed better than the modelling predicted, and we have avoided the deaths and devastation experienced around the world over the past two years.

Western Australians have been magnificent, and now we can take the next important steps forward, safely.

Based on the latest health advice, effective 12:01am Friday 29 April, WA will be easing our public health measures again – back to what we are calling our baseline settings.

🟠 Indoor mask mandate lifted.
No more masks required at venues, the office, or at indoor gatherings. Those aged 8-11 will no longer have to wear masks.
Going forward, masks will only be required for those aged 12 and over in:
– hospitals, aged care and disability care facilities,
– prisons and correctional facilities,
– airports and public transport,
– taxis and rideshare.
However, while they are no longer mandatory, masks are encouraged where physical distancing isn’t possible.
🟠 All capacity and gathering limits will be lifted.
No two square metre rule, no caps on visitors to the home, weddings or funerals. No limits in stadiums or major events.
🟠 WA will join other states in removing quarantine requirements for asymptomatic close contacts, provided they adhere to strict requirements.
These include wearing a mask, avoiding high risk and large gatherings, daily RAT testing, and working from home where possible.
🟠 Proof of vaccination requirement removed for entry to all venues except for hospitals and residential aged care facilities.
The reason we are taking this step is that WA’s vaccination levels are incredibly high. Based on the data we have, there may be only tiny fraction of the community over the age of twelve who have not received at least one dose.
Vaccination requirements for employment will remain.
🟠 G2G pass requirement to enter WA will end, as will the three dose vaccination requirement for domestic arrivals.
International vaccination requirements will still be determined by Commonwealth settings, so the double dose requirement for international arrivals will continue.
WA’s requirement for unvaccinated Australian international arrivals to undertake seven days of isolation will also continue, but it will be reviewed in four weeks.
🟠 Hospital visitation arrangements continue to be in place to protect our most vulnerable citizens.
Masks and proof of vaccination requirements remain and non-essential visitors will be allowed with up to two people per patient per day during visitor hours.
Essential visits for compassionate reasons, birth partners, carers/parents/guardians will also continue.
🟠 Schools will also revert to baseline settings.
This means assemblies, camps, balls and off-site events can resume.
To help identify cases within schools and childcare, the State Government will provide 12 million free RATs to distribute across all schools and childcare facilities.
Parents and students will be encouraged to collect tests to ensure they are ready to test their children or students develop symptoms.
🟠 Travel to some remote Aboriginal communities will remain restricted to protect these more vulnerable communities.

These will be the baseline public health settings WA will have for the foreseeable future.

With these changes, case numbers may rise, hospitalisations may rise – but it can be handled.

And it’s important to note the pandemic isn’t over – but, overall, the risks have changed.

We have avoided mass loss of life, avoided long, debilitating lockdowns, avoided economic devastation.

WA has been spared the heartache and loss and chaos seen around the country and around the world.

Not through luck or fortune, but because of our careful and cautious approach to the pandemic,

So, I would like to say thank you.

We would not be in the position we are in today without your actions, and your care for your fellow Western Australians.

Statement from West Australian Premier, Mark McGowan –

Western Australia’s COVID-19 situation continues to be encouraging.

We haven’t seen a spike in daily cases recorded since public health measures were eased just under two weeks ago, and hospitalisations have fallen and are now stable.

When compared to the scenario in our modelling, cumulative cases since the start of our outbreak are now tracking below what was predicted, and hospital and ICU admissions are significantly below what was expected.

It’s further evidence that our strategy of light public health measures, mask wearing and world-leading vaccination rates is working.

Vaccines have slowed the spread, taken the burden off our hospitals, and saved lives.

This means we are in a strong position to safely ease a range of public health measures as planned.

Effective 12.01am tomorrow (Thursday 14 April) the following measures will be in place:

🟠 Contact registration will be removed across the State in all settings except hospitals.
So you won’t have to check in at the pub or café any more, but you will at a hospital.
🟠 The 500-person cap at all hospitality venues, nightclubs and function centres will be removed as planned.
This will be welcomed by many venue owners, hospitality workers, and partygoers this weekend and beyond.
🟠 Limits to home and private outdoor gatherings will be removed entirely.
🟠  RAT testing on arrival will no longer be required for international and domestic travellers.
However, arrivals at Perth Airport will still be provided with a free RAT that we encourage them to use, and register any positive result with WA Health.
🟠 WA’s close contact definition will be refined to align with the National Cabinet definition.
A close contact will now only be defined as a household-type contact or intimate partner of a COVID-19 case, that being a person who resides with or stays overnight in the same premises or has had more than four hours of cumulative contact with a COVID-19 case in a residential/home setting (residential care facility, congregate living facility, boarding school/house or maritime vessel), without wearing a mask, or someone directed by WA Health that they are a close contact.

In short – only household members, and intimate partners of positive cases will be forced to isolate, as well as those who have spent four or more hours of cumulative contact, without masks, in a residential/home setting with a positive case.

People who are currently in isolation under the broader definition can leave isolation at midnight tonight, so long as they don’t have any symptoms.

However, this only applies to people who were defined as a close contact because they:
– had at least 15 minutes face-to-face contact where a mask was not worn by the exposed person and the person with COVID-19; or
– are someone who had more than than two hours within a small room with a case during their infectious period where masks have been removed for this period by the exposed person and the person with COVID-19.

This does not apply to people are deemed a household close contact. They will still need to complete their isolation period.

We can proceed down this path, with this sensible and safe change, because with too many forced to isolate relative to the risk they pose, and parents forced to stay home when their children are declared a contact in the classroom, the cost begins to outweigh the benefit.

While this will be a relief to many – it so it’s important to keep monitoring for symptoms and getting tested if they develop.

Make the most of those free RATs we are providing to every household and through pop-up locations, or go and get a free PCR test.

In the case of schools – they will no longer need to contact trace classroom or equivalent contacts when Term 2 begins, and cases in classrooms will no longer force students into isolation.

In effect, when it comes to schools – if you’re sick, stay home. And of course, if you have symptoms, get tested.

While it’s not guaranteed yet, WA is getting closer to achieving our soft landing.

It is a remarkable thing – that together – we have avoided mass loss of life, while minimising the impact of the virus and public health measures on the community and the economy.

We will keep monitoring the situation over east – as they go through subsequent Omicron waves, so we can once again learn lessons from their experience, and continually review and ease our own public health measures.

WA has done a remarkable job and every Western Australian should be proud.

Update: 2:00pm AWST, Thursday 24th March 2022

The WA Government has announced public health and social measures will be eased from 12:01am Thursday, March 31, 2022, based on the latest health advice.

The 150 patron limit will be removed for hospitality venues, nightclubs, convention centres or function centres, with the two square metre rule still required. There will be a cap of 500 patrons, which is for two weeks only. The cap will be removed from 14 April.

Critical worker, school and childcare settings, and G2G requirements remains unchanged.

The list below explains the Level 1 measures that will take effect:

•    Masks required indoors for people aged 8 years and above (Year 3 and over at school), other than in the home;
•    Contact registration requirements to only be required for higher-risk venues that require proof of vaccination. This will remove the need for contact registration at retail outlets and other lower-risk sites where only casual interaction is likely to occur;
•    two square metre rule for hospitality venues, nightclubs, convention centres or function centres, with a cap of 500 patrons (for two weeks only);
•    two square metre rule for fitness venues, entertainment venues, cultural venues, places of worship, hairdressers and beauty services, massage and tattoo parlours;
•    75 per cent capacity for seated entertainment venues (forward facing), such as theatres and cinemas;
•    75 per cent capacity for major stadia, such as Optus Stadium, RAC Arena, HBF Stadium (main area) and HBF Park;
•    two square metre rule for Perth Crown Complex including the gaming floor;
•    COVID Event Checklists required for events with more than 500 patrons and less than 1,000 patrons and COVID Event Plans required for large events with over 1,000 patrons. 2sqm rule also applies.
•    indoor home gatherings limited to a total of 30 people, including household members;
•    outdoor home gatherings limited to a total of 200 people subject to the two square metre rule;
•    private outdoor gatherings in public spaces limited to a total of 200 people.

The limit of two visitors will remain per resident per day to residential aged care and residential disability care facilities. There will also be no change concerning essential visitors allowed to hospitals (e.g. for compassionate reasons such as end of life, accompanying a child or patient with complex needs, birthing partner, carer of a person with a disability, chronic illness and frailty).

Proof of vaccination will remain in place for a range of higher-risk venues. Patrons will also be required to check-in using the SafeWA or ServiceWA app, or a hardcopy contact register at these venues.

Statement from West Australian Premier, Mark McGowan –

A short time ago, we held a meeting of the State Disaster Council to discuss the current situation and consider the Chief Health Officer’s latest health advice.

In Australia, the data shows that once a jurisdiction hits one thousand cases a day, the peak of the Omicron outbreak is only a few weeks away.

The latest advice is that we now should expect to see WA reach the peak of cases in the next two weeks or so.

That is how fast we expect Omicron to spread here.

It is clear that to help minimise the surge in hospitalisations and protect the broader community as we get through the coming peak period, WA will need to move to Level 2 public health measures.

Effective 12:01am, Thursday 3 March, in line with WA’s border coming down in full, the following measures will come into effect:
– Mask-wearing required for adults and children in Years 3 and above at all indoor public settings and at major stadiums;
– Home gatherings limited to a total of 10 people indoors and outdoors, except weddings and funerals;
– Private outdoor gatherings in a public space limited to 50 people
– 2 square metre rule and 150 person capacity limit for weddings and funerals, and for places of worship – no more than 10 people inside if held at a private residence
– 2 square metre rule and 150 patron capacity limit for fitness venues, hospitality, entertainment venues, nightclubs, and galleries and museums, with seated service only;
– 2 square metre rule for hairdressers, tattoo parlours and beauty services;
– 2 square metre rule and 500 per capacity limit for outdoor public venues and events, with mask wearing;
– 2 square metre rule for public venues such as swimming pools and recreation centres;
– 50% capacity limit for entertainment venues, such as theatres and cinemas, and for major stadiums, including Optus Stadium, RAC Arena, HBF Stadium (main area) and HBF Park;
– Limit of two visitors per resident per day to aged care and disability care facilities;
– No visitors to hospitals, except for spouses, parents or carers, birth partners or for compassionate reasons;
– 2 square metre rule and 150 person capacity limit indoors or outdoors for higher education facilities including pathway colleges and English language schools;
– Indoor community sports as per venue requirement, with no spectators, except for parents or guardians. Outdoor community sports permitted with no spectators, except for parents or guardians; and
– 4 square metre rule and seated service only for the Crown Casino gaming floor.

These Level 2 measures are expected to be in place for about four weeks, with a review to be undertaken at the end of the month.

Importantly – due to our world leading vaccination rates – we have been able to mitigate the need to move to the severe 4 square metre rule for businesses, which would have a much larger impact on WA businesses and jobs.

As Omicron case numbers continue to significantly increase throughout our State, it is now more important than ever that we listen to the health advice and do all that we can to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe.

Statement from West Australian Premier, Mark McGowan –

New public health and social measures will be introduced for regions throughout the state from 6am Monday, 21 February to help manage the surge of Omicron COVID-19 cases and keep Western Australians safe.

Based on the latest health advice, Level 1 public health and social measures will be introduced in Perth, Peel, South West, Wheatbelt, Great Southern and Pilbara regions, given growing community transmission.

The current mask mandate for all public indoor settings will also be expanded state-wide.

Level 1 public health and social measures (applicable to Perth, Peel, South West, Wheatbelt, Great Southern and Pilbara regions)

These measures are in effect from 6am Monday, 21 February.

In addition to the existing indoor mask requirements, proof of vaccination, contact registration and restricted access to remote Aboriginal communities, Level 1 measures also include:

Gathering limits 
– Home gatherings limited to a total of 30 people
– Private outdoor gatherings (not at a private residence) limited to a total of 200 people

Capacity limits
2sqm rule for:
– Hospitality venues
– Fitness venues (including gyms, pilates, yoga and dance studios)
– Entertainment venues
– Cultural venues
– Places of worship
– Hairdressers and beauty services
– Perth Crown Complex and seated service only on casino gaming floor
– Nightclubs (up to 500 maximum capacity)

75 per cent capacity for seated entertainment venues that face forward, like theatres and cinemas.

75 per cent capacity for major stadiums, such as Optus Stadium, RAC Arena, HBF Stadium (main area) and HBF Park.

Hospitals, aged and disability care facilities
– Visitation at residential aged care facilities, residential disability care facilities and hospitals limited to 4 visitors per patient/resident per day
– Exemptions apply for compassionate reasons

COVID Events and Safety Plans
– COVID Event Checklists required for events with more than 500 patrons and less than 1,000 patrons and COVID Event Plans required for large events with 1,000 patrons and above. See the Events page for more information.
– COVID Safety Plans to be expanded to early childhood education and childcare services, hairdressers and barbers, and encouraged for all workplaces
– Workplaces to implement COVID-19 safe settings to manage workforce impacts.

Other regions (Kimberley, Gascoyne, Mid West and Goldfields-Esperance)

These measures are in effect from 6am Monday, 21 February, in addition to existing proof of vaccination, contact registration and restricted access to remote Aboriginal communities.

Masks
– Wear a mask in all indoor public settings

All Level 1 measures will be applied to these regions as community transmission is detected there.

Level 2 public health and social measures
Further public health and social measures (Level 2) may be introduced in the future to help reduce increasing transmission of COVID-19 and hospitalisations, if necessary.

Level 2 measures may include:
– Mask wearing expanded to include those in Year 3 and above
– Working from home advised for vulnerable people
– Rapid antigen tests (RATs) for visitors at residential aged care and disability facilities
– Home gatherings reduced to a total of 10 people
– 4sqm rule indoors and 2sqm rule outdoors for hospitality, fitness venues, indoor entertainment venues, cultural venues, places of worship, hairdressers and beauty services.

Statement from West Australian Premier, Mark McGowan –

As flagged, ahead of our Safe Transition Plan, we will be expanding proof of vaccination requirements to a wider range of venues and to apply state-wide.

Effective Monday, January 31, double dose proof of vaccination for those aged 16 and older will be required state-wide for:
– Visitors to public and private hospitals, and aged care facilities;
– All hospitality venues including restaurants, cafes, bars, pubs, clubs, taverns, night clubs and dine-in fast food (roadhouses, service stations and takeaway is exempt);
– Indoor entertainment venues, including play centres, gaming and gambling, theatres, concert halls, museums, cinemas and live music venues;
– Bottle shops;
– The entire Crown Perth complex;
– Major stadiums;
– Gyms, fitness centres and health studios;
– Amusement parks and the zoo; and
– Music festivals and large events with more than 500 people, unless exempt.

Community sport and school-based events, unless at one of the specific venues listed, are exempt from the proof of vaccination requirement.

The date of January 31 aligns with the second dose cut-off date for Group Two workforces as part of the mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy. It also gives venues more than two weeks to adjust.

We want the public to be confident in these public settings, and that they’re only mixing with other vaccinated people – people less likely to be carrying or able to pass on the virus.

It reduces the risks posed by unvaccinated people, bringing the virus into busy, populated settings.

Life will be very difficult for the unvaccinated from January 31. No pub, no bottle shop, no gym, no yoga class, no gigs, no dancefloors, no hospital visits.

If you go and get vaccinated today, you can have your second dose by early February.

But if you choose to remain unvaccinated, and at this point, it’s certainly a choice. You’re choosing to put yourself at risk, you’re choosing to put the people around you at risk, and you’re choosing to increase the burden on our health staff.

We’ve seen what works in other jurisdictions, these will be the broadest proof of vaccination requirements in the nation.

And they will not be removed any time soon.

We’ve seen the disaster in New South Wales, when they removed proof of vaccination requirements in mid-December, learned from their mistakes – and are determined not to repeat them.

The new ServiceWA app will be an incredibly important and useful tool for Western Australians as we head into WA’s Safe Transition.

Setting up the ServiceWA app and your Digital Identity takes some time, so allow at least 30 minutes to complete this new process, and have easy access to forms of identification like a passport, driver’s licence or Medicare card.

Step-by-step videos as well as links to download the app can be found here.

The set up process only needs to be completed once and ensures your information is verified and protected at all times when using the app.

Additionally, don’t forget to help any family members who may be having difficulty getting set up.

Once you’re set up you won’t need to open multiple apps or carry other forms of identification to check-in and enter certain venues and events – it’s now all in one place.

From 6am tomorrow, we are rolling out proof of vaccination requirements for higher risk events and venues.

It’s the best thing we can do to ensure these events and businesses can operate safely, whether you’re having a drink or tearing it up on the dancefloor.

It also reduces the chance of these kinds of events turning into the kind of spreading event that we’ve seen with the Perth Mess Hall outbreak.

Proof of vaccination will be required for:
– Nightclubs
– Music festivals and major events, of more than 500 patrons – where mask wearing will also be required outdoors
– Pubs, taverns, hotels and special facility licences with more than 500 capacity, or those specific licensed venues that trade after midnight
– Events with an occasional liquor licence, and;
– the Crown gaming floor.

The quickest way to get proof of vaccinations is using your Medicare online account through myGov, or through the Express Plus Medicare mobile app.
Acceptable forms of showing proof of your COVID-19 vaccinations include:
– the Express Plus Medicare app;
– your COVID-19 digital certificate on myGov, along with an acceptable form of identification;
– your COVID-19 digital certificate from myGov stored in a smartphone wallet, along with an acceptable form of identification;
– a hardcopy of your certificate, along with an acceptable form of identification, or;
– a digital or hardcopy of your immunisation history statement, along with an acceptable form of identification.

If you can’t get proof online, your vaccination provider, such as a GP or pharmacist, can print your immunisation history statement for you.

Proof of vaccination requirements worked well at the Perth Cup, but we ask everyone for patience as it’s rolled out more widely.

It’s important that you get ready for a form of proof now, so that you’re ready when the time comes.

Even if you’re not planning on heading to a major venue this week, it’s best to get ready now, rather than fumbling to sort it in the line for a nightclub or a venue that requires it.

Next week, the State Government will be launching a new integrated app to make the whole process a lot easier.

But by requiring proof of vaccine now for higher risk events means everyone will be a great deal safer when they’re at major events and in large crowded licensed venues in WA.

Statement from West Australian Premier, Mark McGowan –

Today I can announce that at 12:01am Saturday, 5 February, Western Australia will ease its hard border restrictions for vaccinated travellers.

This will be a major step forward for our State in how we manage the COVID-19 pandemic.
But, with the inevitable arrival of COVID-19 into the community, there are a few things that will change as a result.
—-

– Travel –
While controlled borders will ease for international and interstate arrivals, allowing for quarantine free travel, there will still be testing and vaccination requirements on travellers.
All interstate arrivals aged 12 and over must be double dose vaccinated, unless exempt, with PCR testing requirements dependent on length of travel.
International travel will still be governed by Commonwealth border and biosecurity controls, determining the rules for Australians and foreign citizens arriving from overseas.
All international arrivals will be subject to PCR testing pre-departure and on arrival. Only unvaccinated travellers will be required to quarantine for 14 days at an approved facility.
These are reasonable and proportional steps to ensure the opportunities for COVID to enter the community are limited as much as humanly possible.

– Public Health Measures –
Proof of vaccination will be required for entry at:
– nightclubs
– the Crown complex
– the four major stadiums (Optus Stadium, RAC Arena, HBF Arena, HBF Park)
– events with 1,000 or more patrons
Other businesses may also choose to have proof of vaccination requirements as a condition of entry to protect their staff and patrons, if they wish.
Mask wearing will only be required for:
– public transport, taxis and rideshare services
– at airports and on flights
– visitors to hospitals, residential aged care, residential disability care, and custodial corrections facilities
Entry will still be restricted to remote Aboriginal communities where necessary.
WA’s unique position of zero-COVID and a high vaccination rate means border controls can ease with minimal community restrictions, compared to other jurisdictions.

– Regions –
Unfortunately, as flagged, some areas of regional WA have dramatically lower rates of vaccination than the rest of the state and cannot live safely without higher levels of restrictions
At present the Pilbara, the Goldfields and the Kimberley are the only regions with first dose rates below 80 per cent.
If a region cannot reach a double dose rate of 80 per cent by February 5, they will be subject to more  restrictions including, expanded proof of vaccination requirements for venues and air travel into the region, and mask wearing required at venues not covered by the vaccination requirements.
We do not want to impose these restrictions if we do not have to. So we are imploring anyone not yet vaccinated to do so right away.

Saturday, 5 February is a day that some Western Australians have been looking forward to for some time, while
for others, it’s a day that makes them worry.

But my message to all Western Australians is simple.

Since day one of this pandemic – we have been careful and we have been cautious.

We have followed the health advice, and we have been successful.

The health advice is that with a vaccination rate of 90 per cent, that we expect to reach by 5 February, and sensible public health measures, it is safe to ease our border controls.

Western Australians can have confidence that it is the time is right to ease our border controls.

That our health system is ready, that we have the equipment, the hospital capacity, the contact tracing, the workforce and the vaccination rate required to handle the arrival of COVID-19 in the community.

We also know that we can count on Western Australians to do the right thing – following the public health measures, getting vaccinated, checking-in at venues, staying home when unwell, and getting tested when required.

Come Saturday, 5 February, we will be in the best possible position to reconnect with the world, on our terms, and start the next phase of pandemic management for Western Australia.

Statement from West Australian Premier, Mark McGowan –

Last week we announced WA’s Safe Transition Plan, which will take effect in line with a 90% double dose vaccination rate for people aged 12 and over – expected in late January/early February 2022.

As an important part of our transition plan, some public health and safety measures will be introduced to help manage the spread of the virus once it reaches Western Australia.

These measures include a proof of vaccination requirement for events of 1,000 people or more (including at Optus Stadium, RAC Arena and HBF Park, as well as concerts and festivals), nightclubs and all venues at the casino.

As I announced last week, additional proof of vaccination requirements could be stepped up, based on the latest health advice.

The exact date for transition will be locked in after WA reaches the 80% double dose rate.

If WA does not reach 90% vaccination coverage by the set date, then these measures will be strengthened at the point of transition, pending health advice.

So if you haven’t had your COVID-19 vaccination yet, it’s important you get one now – for yourself, your family, your friends and your community.

Due to the complexity of rescheduling this tour, they have unfortunately had to cancel the Perth date. The decision to cancel Perth was not made lightly, however rescheduling Perth to 2022 was not possible in this instance.

Statement from West Australian Premier, Mark McGowan –

With strong testing results and the WA community overwhelmingly doing the right thing over the past two weeks, I can now confirm that we will be able to return directly to pre-lockdown conditions from 12:01am on Monday (midnight on Sunday night).

That means no more masks, no capacity or crowd limits, no service restrictions, no limits on hospital or aged care visits and the return of dancefloors, major events and standing crowds at live performances.

From the situation we were a fortnight ago, to be able to safely take this step so quickly is a massive and incredible result for our community – and shows the value of our approach of acting quickly and decisively.

Under the pre-lockdown conditions, the only state-level restrictions which will remain in place are the controlled border arrangements and restrictions on travel to remote communities. Contact registers will also remain mandatory at most WA venues – as we’ve seen in the past two weeks, they remain an absolutely crucial tool in the fight against COVID-19.

As we move forward, we have to remain vigilant – but the past two weeks have once again shown the power and resilience of the WA community. Thank you.

A statement from West Coast Fever regarding this weekend’s game –

Great news Green Army! Our Round 10 game against Sunshine Coast Lightning is scheduled to go ahead at RAC Arena at 6pm this Saturday, July 10.

Attendance will be capped at 50% to comply with COVID directions, which means just under 7000 fans, including all members and anyone who has already purchased a ticket, will be able to attend.

Statement from West Australian Premier, Mark McGowan –

Following no further local cases being found in WA overnight, I can now confirm restrictions in Perth and Peel will ease again at midnight tonight.

As flagged on Friday, some transitional restrictions will remain in place for a further six days, from 12:01am tomorrow (Tuesday 6 July) through to 12:01am on Monday 12 July.

However, with strong testing results over the weekend, we’ve now received updated health advice that will allow us to move to even lighter transitional restrictions than those announced last week.

From midnight tonight:

– Masks will remain mandatory for indoor public venues, including in the workplace and on public transport. Exemptions apply including for medical reasons and primary school aged children or younger.

– Masks will no longer be required in outdoor public spaces where physical distancing is possible or when undertaking vigorous exercise indoors or outdoors. People should use common sense and take a mask with them whenever they leave home.

– 30 person limit in all homes for indoor private gatherings and 150 person limit for outdoor gatherings.

Statement from West Australian Premier, Mark McGowan –

First, the headline news: the Perth and Peel lockdown will end as scheduled at midnight tonight.

Overnight, we detected one additional local case of COVID-19 in Western Australia. However, as this case involves the partner of a previous case who has been in quarantine, and had previously tested negative, this new case does not pose a risk to the community.

So, as we had hoped, we can now proceed to the end of lockdown restrictions. However, as with previous lockdowns, we will have a staged return towards pre-lockdown conditions over the coming days.

From midnight tonight (12:01am Saturday 3 July), Perth and Peel will move to interim restrictions which will remain in place for three days, until 12:01am Tuesday 6 July.

Following that, pending ongoing health advice, some further transitional restrictions will remain until Monday 12 July.

I’ll detail both stages of restrictions in a moment, but first can I take a moment to thank everyone for doing the right thing over these past few days. As always, we’ve seen strong compliance and excellent testing numbers, and that’s what gives us the confidence to take these steps.

The post-lockdown interim restrictions for the Perth and Peel regions from 12.01am Saturday, July 3 until 12.01am Tuesday, 6 July (pending the latest health advice), include:
– Everyone must continue to wear a mask in indoor and outdoor public places, while at work and on public transport, unless exempt or for outdoor vigorous exercise;
– People who can work from home or remotely, are encourage to do so;
– Limit of 10 visitors to all homes;
– Limit of 20 people for private outdoor gatherings;
– Four square metre capacity rule and 20 patron limit for restaurants, cafés, pubs, bars, casinos, nightclubs, entertainment venues and public venues – for seated food and drink service only;
– Four square metre capacity rule and 20 patron limit for beauty, nail and hair services;
– Public venues such as recreation centres, outdoor playgrounds, museums, swimming pools can open with the four square metre capacity rule and 20 patron limit in place;
– Universities, TAFEs and training services can reopen;
– Places of worship can open with four square metre capacity rule and 20 patron limit;
– Weddings and funerals can proceed with up to 20 guests;
– Professional and outdoor community sports, including training, are permitted, but without spectators. Indoor community sport is not permitted;
– Fitness venues including gyms, pilates, yoga, dance studios can open with four square metre capacity rule and 20 patron limit in place;
– No visitors to aged and disability facilities and hospitals, except for compassionate reasons and advocacy;
– No visitors to residential aged care and/or disability facilities except for exceptional circumstances such as essential care, compassionate reasons, end of life and advocacy; and,
– No visitors to hospitals except for compassionate reasons, end of life, accompanying a child or supporting a partner giving birth.

The intrastate Perth and Peel border will removed, meaning people can travel within WA, with the exception of some remote Aboriginal communities. However, anyone who has been in Perth and Peel since Sunday, 27 June is subject to same mask wearing requirements and will not be allowed to visit hospitality, entertainment, recreation venues or other public gatherings. People are permitted to enter retail venues and purchase takeaway.

People identified as casual contacts of confirmed COVID-19 cases are not permitted to travel outside the Perth and Peel regions until 12:01am Monday 12 July, unless for essential or compassionate reasons.

Regarding elective surgeries, category 2 and 3 elective surgeries have been postponed in public hospitals until Friday, 9 July. People are urged not to contact hospitals directly as they will be contacted to reschedule their appointments.

Following this upcoming three-day period, further eased transitional restrictions will take effect at 12:01am 6 July, and remain in place until 12:01am Monday 12 July – pending ongoing health advice.
This set of restrictions will include the following changes:
– Masks will not be required outside where physical distancing is possible;
– Masks will remain mandatory for indoor public venues, including in the workplace and on public transport. Exemptions apply including for medical reasons and primary school aged children or younger. People should use common sense and take a mask with them whenever they leave home;
– 30 person limit will apply in all homes for indoor private gatherings and 150 person limit for outdoor private gatherings;
– Two square metre capacity rule and 150 patron limit will apply to most venues, including weddings and funerals;
– Indoor and outdoor community sport will be able to resume with spectators;
– Patients in hospital, or people in aged care or a disability facility can have four personal visitors per day. Masks will remain mandatory for staff and visitors; and
– Major stadiums, including Optus Stadium, RAC Arena and HBF Park will be able to operate at 50 per cent capacity.

We intend for these subsequent transitional restrictions to be in place for just six days, from Tuesday through Sunday to take us through the full 14 day incubation period.

Assuming everything goes well for these restrictions, and health advice permitting, we intend to take the final safe and sensible step and return to our pre-lockdown life by 12:01am Monday 12 July.

It’s a quick, safe and sensible approach to keep our State safe, and get us back to the incredible freedoms that we’ve enjoyed for most of the last year.

In light of recent COVID-19 developments, the organisers of Sneakerland, the premier sneakers and streetwear convention, have made the decision to postpone the event. Sneakerheads won’t have to wait long though with the rescheduled date set for Saturday 31st July 2021.

Statement from West Australian Premier, Mark McGowan –

Western Australia has recorded one new case of COVID-19 in the community overnight in relation to NSW travel.

As a result, and until public health can confirm if the virus has spread, restrictions will come into effect immediately for the Perth-Peel region for a minimum period of three days.

These restrictions include:
– Mandatory mask wearing indoors, on public transport, and outdoors where physical distancing is not possible, primary school aged children and those who are exempt are not required to wear masks;
– Public events that cannot be restricted to 150 people will be cancelled or played without spectators today – including the Chicken and Beer Festival and AFL West Coast Eagles vs Western Bulldogs match at Optus Stadium. The match will proceed, but without spectators.
– 30-person limit in all homes for private gatherings;
– Hospitality, entertainment venues (including casino and nightclubs), retail, beauty/hairdressers, recreation centres (including gyms, pilates, yoga, dance and swimming pools) and places of worship can remain open, but must comply with the 2 square metre rule, with a maximum of 150 patrons.
– Community sport is permitted.
– Wedding and funerals can also proceed but will be limited to a maximum of 150 attendees.
– Hospitals will have a maximum of four personal visitors permitted per patient per day – masks will be mandatory for staff and visitors.
– Anyone who enters a regional area from the Perth-Peel region is required to wear a mask as per requirements in Perth-Peel, and travel should be minimised. Travel to remote Aboriginal Communities will be restricted.

All these measures will be reviewed regularly and the Chief Health Officer will continue to monitor the serious situation and provide more ongoing advice.

Everyone is urged to continue checking in using the SafeWA app or contact registers, get tested if you feel unwell and visit wa.gov.au/covid19 for further information.

Statement from West Australian Premier, Mark McGowan –

Big news today for thousands of WA venues: this Wednesday Western Australia will proceed to Phase 5 of eased restrictions, and remove all COVID-related capacity limits.

That means that all venues will be allowed to return to 100% of their pre-COVID capacity, and all major events will be able to occur with no limit on size or crowds.

Venues will still be required to maintain contact registers and use the SafeWA app and have COVID Safety Plans in place. COVID Event Plans will also still be required for major events.

This change follows updated health advice, and means that Western Australia will continue to lead the way in having some of the lightest restrictions in the world.

It’s another big step, and it will mean a lot to many local businesses who’ve worked hard to keep going through challenging conditions over the past 15 months.

Our controlled interstate border, and the international hard border, will remain in place – and are once again essential for allowing us to ease these restrictions within our State.

While we’re confident that we can safely take this step, it’s crucial that Western Australians continue to do the right thing, so that if COVID-19 does make its way into our State we remain ready.

That means exercising good personal hygiene, signing in when you visit a venue, staying home if you are unwell and getting tested if you have symptoms of COVID-19.

It’s also crucial that every Western Australian gets vaccinated when they are eligible – it remains our best way out of this pandemic.

This is an exciting step for our State – and is only possible because of everyone’s hard work throughout this pandemic.

Statement from West Australian Premier Mark McGowan –

I am pleased to announce that based on the latest public health advice, from midnight tomorrow (12.01am Saturday, 10 April), we will be raising capacity limits for certain indoor and outdoor venue with fixed seating to 100%, with no upper numerical cap.

This is big step forward in the removal of restrictions – one that we can only take due to the hard work from Western Australians across the community, giving health experts the confidence to proceed.

The following indoor and outdoor venues will be able to move to 100 per cent of the fixed seating capacity, and SafeWA and contact registers will continue as mandatory:
• auditoriums and amphitheatres;
• theatres;
• concert halls;
• cinemas;
• comedy lounges; and
• performing arts centres.

WA’s major venues such as Optus Stadium, RAC Arena, HBF Stadium – Main Arena, and HBF Park will be able to have 100 per cent of the fixed seating capacity in the spectator seating and special seating spaces.

Places of worship will be able to have 100 per cent of capacity of a space being used for formal worship.

However, there are some restrictions that are needed based on health advice.

The 75% limit for restaurants, clubs and cafés with dedicated seating, and the two square metre rule for pubs, nightclubs, bars and other music events, will remain in place at this stage.

However, in the context of continued absence of community transmission and the continued rollout of the vaccine across the country for vulnerable groups, the Chief Health Officer anticipates that the benefits of retaining the final physical distancing and mass gathering restrictions may well be reduced and therefore could possibly be removed.

To that end, the Chief Health Officer has recommended that the situation be reviewed in one month’s time, with further advice to be provided.

We should not forget however, given our privileged position, this pandemic is not over.

Despite the global vaccination effort, cases around the world are still rising.
Now, more than ever, we have to keep up our efforts, both in terms of our efforts as a State, including our controlled border and hotel quarantine systems, and as individuals.

Statement from West Australian Premier Mark McGowan – 

Today I can announce that the next stage of eased restrictions to deliver a boost for thousands of WA businesses.

As of Monday, March 15, in line with the latest expert health advice, many WA venues will be permitted to operate at up to 75% of normal maximum capacity.

This will mean that WA venues continue to have the lightest restrictions, and is another major step forward for our State.

Increased capacity of up to 75% will be allowed at seated outdoor and indoor venues including entertainment venues, restaurants, cafés, food courts, bars and places of worship.

This change will come into effect from 12:01am on Monday 15 March and will permit the following WA venues to operate at either 75% of maximum capacity OR the 2 square metre rule – whichever is greater:
– restaurants, cafes, food courts, and bars;
– indoor and outdoor auditoriums and amphitheatres;
– theatres;
– concert halls;
– cinemas;
– comedy lounges;
– performing arts centres;
– places of worship;
– function centres;
– community, recreation or youth centre or facilities, including community halls and sporting clubs including but not limited to: community halls, sporting clubs, Returned and Services League facilities and Police and
Community Youth Centres;
– WA’s major stadiums (Optus Stadium, HBF Park, RAC Arena, HBF Stadium – Main Arena); and,
– funeral parlours

However, the two square metre rule will continue to apply to all other unfixed seating venues and facilities including nightclubs, music events and the casino.

To clarify, for pubs and bars, which have a mix of seated and standing service are included in this new rule, and 75% refers to their total capacity, not just their seated capacity.

The Chief Health Officer will continue to review these arrangements and provide ongoing updated advice, as necessary.

I am sure the new 75% rule will be welcome news for many in our hospitality sector. We know many of our businesses have been thriving under WA’s unique approach – and we hope this change will assist them further.

This is a strong, safe step forward for the WA economy.

It means WA continues to have the lightest restrictions of all the states in place for local businesses.

It’s thanks to every Western Australian that we can now make this change.

My only request is this – please keep doing the right thing – that means keeping up good habits, staying home when sick, getting tested if you have symptoms, and making sure you use the SafeWA app when you head out.

And most importantly, keep getting out there, supporting our local businesses, and keeping our State strong.

Announcement from the WA State Government:

Beginning at 6pm tonight, the whole Perth metropolitan area, the Peel region and the South West region will be going into a full lockdown. This lockdown will run until 6pm on Friday. A five-day lockdown. It’s crucial we act quickly, to keep the community safe. We cannot forget how quickly this virus can spread, nor the devastation it can cause.

Following our discussions with the Chief Health Officer and Police Commissioner, the following measures will be put in place from 6pm for people in Perth, Peel and the South West:

People in these regions are required to stay home, except for the following four reasons:
– Shopping for essentials like groceries, medicine and necessary supplies.
– Medical or health care needs including compassionate requirements and looking after the vulnerable.
– Exercise, within their neighbourhood, but only with one other person and only for one hour per day.
– Work, where you cannot work from home or remotely.

In addition to this Stay Home rule. If you do leave home, for one of the four reasons you will be required to wear a mask at all times outside and if you need to work indoors, then wearing a mask in the workplace is also mandatory. To be clear, mask wearing on public transport is also mandatory.

People in the Perth, Peel or South West region need to stay inside their region for the next five days, unless for an essential reason. We are strongly encouraging that everyone in this area, who is from another WA region, stay here and do not travel further outside of this area until the lockdown is over. If you do need to travel outside the region you are in now, that can only occur if you need to return to your place of residence or exceptional circumstances.

The transport of essential goods into this region, is permitted, under our existing transport guidelines.
This lockdown means the following businesses, venues and locations in the relevant regions need to close for the next five days:
– Pubs, bars and clubs
– Gyms and indoor sporting venues
– Playgrounds, skate parks and outdoor recreational facilities
– Cinemas, entertainment venues, and casinos
– Large religious gatherings and places of worship
– Libraries and cultural institutions

Restaurants and cafes will close, and provide takeaway service only. 10 people can attend funerals, weddings are cancelled for the next five days.

No visitors are permitted to your home, unless caring for someone vulnerable or an emergency.
No visitors will be allowed in aged care homes, unless exceptional circumstances.
No visitors to hospitals and/or disability facilities, unless exceptional circumstances.
Elective surgery and procedures for categories 2 and 3 will be suspended from Tuesday, 2 February. Category 1 and urgent category 2 surgery will continue.

For a majority of schools in these regions, school was due to start tomorrow. That has now been put on hold and schools will be closed until next week – following the lockdown measures. It is, in effect, an extension of the school holidays.

All these measures will be reviewed regularly and the Chief Health Officer will continue to monitor the serious situation and provide more ongoing advice. This is an extremely fast-moving situation. I know for many Western Australians this is going to come as a shock. Western Australians have done so well for so long but this week it is absolutely crucial that we stay home, maintain physical distancing and personal hygiene and get tested if you have symptoms.

This is a very serious situation and each and every one of us has to do everything we personally can to help stop the spread in the community. We have acted decisively and swiftly given these circumstances. I want to thank everyone in advance for their patience.

Frontier Touring and Faith No More wish to advise the band’s highly anticipated arena tour of Australia and New Zealand has been rescheduled to February 2022, due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation and subsequent restrictions on international travel and venue capacities.

Both the band and Frontier thank fans for their understanding and patience regarding the latest news. Make no mistake: these arena shows will be epic and worth the wait!

Due to the current restrictions surrounding live events worldwide the Bon Iver’s Australian tour has now been cancelled.

Laneway Presents, Chugg Entertainment & Frontier Touring, the promoters of Tame Impala’s upcoming tour have confirmed that the concerts in December 2020 will not be able to go ahead, but will be rescheduled. The shows originally planned to be held in April, and moved to December 2020, have now been rescheduled to December 2021.

Tickets already purchased for the April & December 2020 shows will be valid for the rescheduled dates, all remaining tickets are on-sale now for the new dates in December 2021.

Due to ongoing government restrictions, and out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our fans, crew and staff, the Harry Styles ‘Love on Tour 2020’ shows in Australia and New Zealand scheduled to take place in November 2020 will be postponed.

Following the Premier’s announcement on Monday 22nd June to further ease restrictions, we are now opening RAC Arena in line with Phase 4 of the roadmap.

From Saturday 27 June:

·         all existing gathering limits and the 100/300 rule removed

·         gathering limits only determined by WA’s reduced 2sqm rule

·         no requirement to maintain patron register at food businesses and licensed premises

·         alcohol can be served as part of unseated service arrangements

·         all events permitted except for large scale, multi-stage music festivals

·         unseated performances permitted at venues such as concert halls, live music venues, bars, pubs and nightclubs

·         gyms operating unstaffed, but regular cleaning must be maintained

The shows originally planned to be held in April, have now been rescheduled to December 2020.

Unfortunately Khruangbin are not available for the rescheduled tour dates, however we will be announcing a new support artist for the tour in the near future.

The NBL has decided to cancel the remaining games of the Grand Final series between the Sydney Kings and Perth Wildcats.

Game four was scheduled to be played on Friday at RAC Arena. Sydney Kings management have indicated today that they did not wish to proceed with the remainder of the series given the global uncertainty and effects around COVID-19.

NBL Owner and Executive Chairman Larry Kestelman said: “We respect the decision in what are extraordinary times for everyone. We are understanding of not just the players’ health and well being but also their desire to be with their families, especially given so many of them have family overseas.

“Having consulted with the Australian Basketball Players’ Association we have decided the remaining games shall not be played. With Perth leading the best of five game series 2-1, we will now consider a decision on the outcome of the championship over the next 48 hours.

“We acknowledge both teams for what has been a fantastic series and season. Sydney was the only team to have gone through an entire NBL season on top of the ladder and Perth was leading the Grand Final series.

“This has been an incredible season for the NBL and one of the best in our 41-year history with record attendances and world class basketball. We thank all of our teams, officials, staff, partners and fans for their outstanding support and we look forward to returning even bigger and better in 2020-21.

“We wish everyone around Australia and around the world all the very best and to stay safe during these challenging times.

ASM Global has been closely following the federal and state governments’ management of the COVID-19 outbreak, and takes seriously our responsibility for the health and well-being of our patrons, clients and employees coming to RAC Arena.

Following the initial announcement by the Prime Minister on Friday afternoon, we are making contact with the promoters of concerts/ organisers of events in RAC Arena to discuss the potential to reschedule those events that will be affected by the advice to not proceed with events expecting to attract more than 500 people. At this stage, no timeframe has been given to how long the ban will be in place in Western Australia.

Whilst we have been anticipating a variety of scenarios, it will take some time to resolve the arrangements for each event.

It is our intent to be able to advise patrons expecting to attend such events of the new arrangements as quickly as possible. This will be done via our web site, through notification directly to ticket holders, for ticketed events and via organisers of events for which they have the patron contact details.

Should a ticketed event be cancelled altogether, refunds will be automatically made, directly to the original payment account. All ticket sales proceeds are held securely by RAC Arena and are available for return to Ticketek to enable the refunds.

Due to the number of events affected and consequently the numbers of patrons involved, we would appreciate your patience in not calling us or Ticketek, and look out for the information to appear on our web site or for an email from us.

Due to recent announcements by the Australian and New Zealand Governments the ALANIS MORISETTE – “2020 World Tour – Celebrating 25 Years of “Jagged Little Pill” tour is being rescheduled.

In a message to her fans, Alanis Morissette said:

Unfortunately the upcoming shows in Japan, Manila, Australia and New Zealand will be rescheduled for a later date 💔💔 please hang on to your tickets, details to come soon for the rescheduled shows 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 take care of yourself, of each other. i love you. xo”

We thank you for your understanding as we work to reschedule the tour for later this year, an announcement about new show dates will be made in due course.

Ticket holders wishing to attend should retain their tickets pending confirmation of new dates. Patrons unable or unwilling to attend the new dates can obtain a full refund from the point of purchase.

The NBL has advised after consultation with local, state and federal authorities as well as the clubs, they have made a decision that the remainder of the Hungry Jack’s NBL Grand Final Series will be closed to the general public. Ticketek will be in touch with ticket holders regarding refunds. The Perth Wildcats encourage its fans to watch the game live on SBS Viceland or ESPN, and show support through social media.

ASM Global has been closely following the federal and state governments’ management of the COVID-19 outbreak, and takes seriously our responsibility for the health and well-being of our patrons, clients and employees coming to RAC Arena.

Following the initial announcement by the Prime Minister this afternoon, we are making contact with the promoters of concerts/organisers of events in RAC Arena to discuss the potential to reschedule those events that will be affected by the advice to not proceed with events expecting to attract more than 500 people.

This announcement has come suddenly this afternoon and whilst we have been anticipating a variety of scenarios, it will take some time to resolve the arrangements for each event.

It is our intent to be able to advise patrons expecting to attend such events of the new arrangements as soon as possible. This will be done via our web site, through notification directly to ticket holders, for ticketed events and via organisers of events for which they have the patron contact details.

Should a ticketed event be cancelled altogether, refunds will be automatically made, directly to the original payment account.  All ticket sales proceeds are held securely by RAC Arena and are available for return to Ticketek to enable the refunds.

Due to the number of events affected and consequently the numbers of patrons involved, we would appreciate your patience in not calling us or Ticketek, and look out for the information to appear on our web site or for an email from us.

WHAT ARE WE DOING ABOUT COVID-19 RISKS:

At RAC Arena, we are taking very seriously the health and safety of all our patrons, performers and staff members.

We are closely monitoring developments around COVID-19 with both Federal and state health departments.  In a media conference Thursday morning (12 March, 2020), the Prime Minister reiterated the advice of the Commonwealth’s Chief Medical Officer that, in Australia at this time, there is no material risk associated with attending major events and that he is attending the football this week-end.

At this time, all of our scheduled events are proceeding as planned and we are in close communication with the promoters of all our forthcoming events, and with the Western Australian Government Department of Health regarding arrangements we should have in place. This situation is subject to change at short notice in the current circumstances, and advice about any changes will be available on our website.

We have introduced additional procedures around our operations based on the current recommendations. We have increased our infection mitigation routines throughout the Arena, including the following:

• Our cleaning team is cleaning and disinfecting all points of contact on an increased rotation particularly during the times we host patrons in the venue.
• For our everyday sanitation and disinfectant of all hard surfaces throughout public areas, we use recommended cleaning solutions that are, at a minimum, 60% alcohol-based.  These have proven anti-viral/bacterial properties and are a hospital grade application.  With each application, a different micro-fibre cloth is used to avoid any cross-contamination between surfaces.
• Hand sanitiser with similar anti-viral properties is available at a number of convenient locations around the venue. Authorities also suggest we all carry a personal dispenser of sanitiser with us at all times.
• Additional precautions are being taken in all food preparation and handling areas to prevent cross-contamination.
• All staff working in direct contact with patrons e.g. security at turnstiles, will be issued with gloves and provisioned to make regular changes during their shift.
• We have appropriate stocks of all products on hand at the venue.
• We are communicating closely with all personnel engaged at the Arena to avoid the introduction of any infection by any of them.  We have given clear instructions that anyone exhibiting flu-like symptoms or who has been in contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case, is to stay at home in isolation for at least 14 days and present a medical certificate before returning to work.
• We have mounted an in-house campaign in support of good health etiquette amongst all our team.

Should there be any change from the government guidance regarding major events in Australia, we are in contact and working with health authorities so as to be ready to respond to their advice.

YOU CAN PLAY YOUR PART TOO:

We ask our patrons to similarly exercise responsibility for the health and well-being of themselves and their fellow patrons with the following suggestions:

• If you are sick or exhibiting any flu-like symptoms (including fever, cough, sore throat, fatigue or shortness of breath), please do not attend the event.  Pass your tickets to a friend.
• If you or a close family member have returned from a country or region that has been affected by COVID-19 or is the subject of an Australian Government travel warning, within the past two weeks, you should not attend the event.  Pass your tickets to a friend.
• If you sneeze (despite not exhibiting symptoms prior to attending!), please capture all droplets in either your inner-elbow or a large tissue.  Please dispose of this immediately in a suitable rubbish receptacle or a toilet.  Please wash and/or sanitize your hands immediately.
• Please limit your physical contact with other patrons including shaking hands, hugging and kissing cheeks etc.  Maintain some space around you to the extent possible.
• Please be careful to not share drink containers and other opportunities for germs to spread with anyone else.  Keep food covered and eat it as soon as practical.
• Please wash your hands immediately prior to leaving the toilets, every time you visit the facilities.
• Please use some hand sanitizer every time you pass a dispenser.
• Consider carrying your own personal dispenser of sanitiser with you at all times.
• Should you feel ill during the event, please distance yourself from other patrons, take care not to spread germs to the best of your ability and either return home or report to your usual medical facility.  Whilst the Arena has First Aid facilities, we are not equipped to diagnose a virus nor to treat suspected infections in required isolation.

TICKETING QUERIES:

Should you decide that you will not attend the event, we remind you that, should you offer your tickets for resale, by law the price can be no more than 10% above what you paid. You may have to accept a little less to make the sale attractive.

Should the promoter decide to cancel the event, please be assured that all monies from ticket sales are being held securely.  Refunds will proceed automatically, directly to the original payment account, as soon as the promoter’s contract is formally cancelled.

We will email or text you and issue advice on our social media feeds if there is any news about such a change to the current plans for all events to continue as planned.
