EDIT: Sorry all. As much as this would have rocked, it is an April Fools joke.
Mick Jagger. Paul Stanley. Alice Cooper. These are just some of the biggest names in rock to have performed at RAC Arena in years gone by, but now members of the public can be a rockstar of their own with plans for the installation of a rock-climbing wall to be constructed at RAC Arena officially signed off.
‘Arena Ascent’ will be the first of its kind in the CBD, built into the side of the 16,500-capacity venue. The climbing experience will be spread across the Eastern-facing walls of the venue with courses built to cater for all skills and ages.
General Manager, Michael Scott, welcomes the latest development, stating “we have loved exciting fans with world class events for over a decade and now we want to raise the experience we offer to new heights. With the outside of the venue stretching to over 50-metres tall, the writing was on the wall that we would be fools not to make Arena Ascent a reality”.
Once construction is complete, the climbing wall will be available for the public to use and will be capable of hosting various amateur and professional level climbing competitions. Due to the venues busy calendar of events coming up, construction will be staggered, however, management has confirmed the development will not affect events such as Lewis Capaldi, Lizzo, and Michael Bublé from going ahead in the coming months.
This is the latest development to the venue off the back of the successful launch of ‘AIRENA’, a rooftop bar built on top of the Wellington Street building in 2022. Construction of the wall at Perth’s home of live entertainment will begin today, April 1, and is scheduled to be open by February 30, 2024.
